HAPPINESS OVERALL by Jordi Muñoz Florensa

The social states of the society in the history of the world had changed a lot as the years went by, now the world it can be divided in three classes: the upper-class people, the middle-class people and the lower-class people. In 2020, the majority of the world habitants, belong to the middle-class people, the ones that we live in that class, we practically live as kings, we have all that we want, we practically have unlimited water, unlimited food, unlimited electricity, and having it all, we have courage to complain all the day of our miserable life’s.

In all the continents, in all the countries, in all the cities, poverty exists, but in one of the continents, the poverty stands out more, Africa.

This photo was taken in Quetta, south-west Pakistan, the photo was gained many prices, and was published in many newspaper on the water day-in, a day marked by the UN to focus attention on the importance of freshwater and sustainable management of resources. In the photo we can see three protagonists, the three are boys of 5 and 6 years old, they are running down the middle of a street, carrying water tanks empties, and it seems they are going to fill them somewhere.

The three boys are wearing similar pieces of clothes, they wear a kind of old and worn, wide, cotton, long-sleeved, tunic that reaches to the ankles, called thawb or suriyah and a pair of black, worn and dirty shoes. The street they are running down, it has no sidewalk, in the place, were sidewalk must be, there is full of rocks and dust. We can also see more children in the street, without anybody taking care of them, ones are going by foot, and others with bicycle. In the very background, we can see the buildings of the street, they are in very bad conditions, this makes me think that the neighbourhood or the city where they are is an area where poverty is very common.

What strikes me the most is the way with which children live this situation. Even not having food enough to become full either water to drink more than twice a day, they just live life to the fullest, they run among the streets enjoying the moment with happiness, they manage to play with whatever they have and they even complain less than us, that we have it all whenever we want. I think we should learn many things about them and of course help them to overcome this situation once and for all.

Imagine being one of that boys for the rest of your life, would you like it? Imagine having to eat garbage remains and water of the floor, would you like it? I clearly think that the answer of everybody in the world is: NO! We must start opening the eyes and not looking just for ourselves, there is no right that a person does not have the basic resources, we must help to all this people, and stop filling us with empty words and false promises. Let’s make the change!
