ONE PLANET, THREE WORLDS by Guillem Fargas

Poverty, that far concept that we do not think of it as much as we should. As we do not suffer it, we do not think that is a serious issue and I believe is the most important around the world, a global problem that kills more people than war. Thus, we do not do anything to try to change it, and specially these days, that the humanity is suffering, we should think of the ones that really need more help. Through history, we have made a society where there have to be poor people, so as many other live well, but this is an insane way to live. Can you imagine living with nothing?

In this picture I can see a young girl, lying in a big bed. She is wearing a dress and no shoes, as this is something that not many people can have. On the left side of the picture I can see some pieces of clothes on the floor, next to an open door. On the other side of the door I can see more clothes and a white basket. Everything seems very old and dusty. What highlights between all these things, are two white balls, that look like to pool balls or another time of ball. I cannot figure out what are they doing there or what meaning they have. In the middle we can see the full-sized bed, with no sheet bed, as this might be unnecessary to survive. The young child is lying on a big, light pillow that is almost out of the bed. She must be trying to rest, as she looks very tired. The floor of the room seems dirty and old, as it must not been cleaned in so much time. The room seems to be full of things but at the same time, is very empty. That makes it most sad, as this poor girl must not have much stuff apart from these. The girl must be sleeping as she might not have anything better to kill time. In addition, the girl could think that she is very fortunate to have a bed to sleep and rest, as many people do not have this luck. I do not know which country is this girl from, but I can imagine is one of the third-world countries, the ones we can even imagine what are going through. 

 

What drives me crazy is that we live so very well and millions of people of the world, do not have this luck. But, we are all humans and we might have the same rights, but this is not what I can see: many people die due to poverty and famine every day, and this people do not want a golden car or jewels, they just want to live their live freely and healthy. They do not ask for many things, but we do not do anything to help them. And war is the last straw: many people have left and are leaving their home, their houses due to war and when they ask for help, we, Europe, one of the richest continent of the world, we turn our back on them. This is unfair. We could do many things to help them, such as going there and building more houses, more hospitals and giving them medical attention.  We can do more. We must do more.
